This position runs from the beginning of December through beginning of April.

Job Summary:  Ensures the safe and efficient operation of all of Bolton Valley’s ski lifts.  Trains and supervises lift operations and ticket checking staff.

Essential Functions: 

  1. Train and supervise lift operators and ticket checkers
  2. Oversee all daily operations of the lift
  3. Assist lift operators in the morning pre-operational setup of all lifts, including snow removal, ramp maintenance, setting up the lift line maze
  4. Ensure that all morning pre-operational checks are completed properly
  5. Provide breaks to lift operators
  6. Ensure all shut-down procedures are followed to ensure passengers are not left on lift and that lift is ready to operate the following morning.
  7. Transport lift operators to top and mid stations of lifts
  8. Ensure compliance with ANSI B77 standards, Vermont Passenger Tramway rules and regulations and all Bolton Valley policies and procedures.  Identify problem areas (signs not visible, ropes not in place, potential hazards, etc.) and rectify them as soon as possible
  9. Assist in the maintenance of lift load and unload ramps throughout the day
  10. Schedule staff to ensure sufficient staffing as well as management of wages within budget guidelines
  11. Oversee payroll system, assist in resolving any payroll issues
  12. Communicate any variations from normal lift operating schedule (wind hold, delayed opening, etc.) to Ski Patrol, Guest Services and management team immediately
  13. Take charge of communication during a lift down-time situation
  14. Lead a team in lift evacuation when needed
  15. Print, file and ensure proper completion of daily operations logs
  16. Fill out incident reports and investigate any lift-related incidents
  17. Assist Lift Maintenance staff to ensure reliable operation of lifts
  18. Inspect fire extinguishers monthly
  19. Handle and respond to customer complaints
  20. Ensure cleanliness of lift buildings and other work areas
  21. Perform all tasks of a Lift Operator or Ticket Checker as needed
  22. Work in different departments resort-wide as needed

Other Functions:

  • Prepare all lift stations for operations before annual inspection (signs and ropes in place, buildings and structures cleaned and maintained, tools in place, etc.)

NOTE:  All Bolton Valley employees are required to perform alternate functions from time to time, both within and outside of their assigned department, particularly during peak periods such as holiday weekends. 

Customer Service Expectations:  Lift Operations Supervisors have significant direct customer contact when working at the lifts and are responsible for supervising front-line staff whose jobs involve constant customer interaction.    It is therefore of utmost importance that the Lift Operator be courteous and professional in accordance with Bolton’s commitment to providing superior customer service.      

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma required, associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-2 years experience in lift operations at Bolton Valley (preferred) or another ski resort
  • Prior supervisory experience helpful
  • Valid drivers license to dirve snowmobile
  • Intermediate level ski or snowboarding ability

 

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Good work ethic, dependability and excellent customer service & communication skills
  • Familiarity with lift operations and the ski industry in general
  • Leadership qualities and a respect for staff
  • Ability to operate all of Bolton Valley’s ski lifts

Physical and Mental Demands: 

Involves lifting up to 50 pounds, and stalling chairs up to 400 lbs traveling up to 450 feet per minute,  shoveling large volumes of snow and/or ice, raking, and clearing snow/ice from chairs.  Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking on slippery and/or uneven snow or icy surfaces, and driving a snow mobile.

Work Environment: 

Position involves working outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind and rain, on varied snow surfaces, and requires being on your feet for the majority of the scheduled shift.  Some time will be spent inside, but inside time still requires alertness and attention to the lift and passengers.
