A skier skins up a forested trail

This post is a guest contribution from one of our Bolton Valley Backcountry Guides, Alek Jadkowsky.

“Still Low Tide, but Getting There!”

I got out for a little backcountry exploration this afternoon to see how the trail coverage looks above the base area. Even at Bryant Cabin, the snowpack is still looking a bit thin and I was averaging around 6″ of depth as I poked around. It is definitely enough to ski on, but I was dodging rocks, roots, stumps, open water, and a myriad of other early season hazards. That said, if you stay on your toes it is very possible to make some good turns. I even saw tracks from a few brave souls that dropped into the glades below Bryant Cabin. Ski cautiously, but it is worth getting out there!
